The LIFE Foundation’s teaching initiative works to strengthen the interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects among children in primary schools. The foundation develops and offers comprehensive lesson kits to teachers designed to help them create experimental and curiosity-sparking learning experiences.
The LIFE Foundation’s courses include several components: A package with physical material sent to the schools, a range of various digital content, and a teaching lab visit to either LIFE’s campus in Lyngby or booking of one of the initiative’s mobile labs.
Offering this multifaceted service includes a lot of logistics and a high level of complexity. On top of this, parts of the process were originally outsourced to partners, which resulted in issues with transferring data. This meant a lack of flexibility and transparency in the user journey. The users faced an overly complicated experience sending them to multiple different platforms, and subsequently, many dropped off before finalizing the booking process.
The LIFE Foundation needed a new setup that would allow them to insource more of the process to be able to tailor and simplify the user journey.
We helped the LIFE Foundation define a new booking process that made it simple for teachers to book while giving the LIFE foundation full ownership of the user journey.
The initial request was for us to develop a backend system to support the logistics in the current setup, but the black box issues made it problematic to construct a sufficient data foundation. Therefore, we advised on and agreed to a different route, taking over the booking process and establishing an integration collaboration with relevant partners that supply full transparency for the LIFE.
User research identified the triggers causing the user drop-off during the existing booking process, and our UX team developed a new, seamless architecture taking all these issues into account.
The result is a new digital infrastructure tailored to the needs of the LIFE Foundation and its users. The new solution collects the entire user journey in one system and includes both the booking process, admin panel, external email system, logistics partner integrations, and resource management system. For the tech interested, the solution is a Statamic CMS on life.dk that leads to the booking system: A custom project built in Laravel and Vue.
